Shift Pic
Shift Pic was an image resizing and optimizing extension built specifically for web developers and designers.
The extension did all of the hard work for you: you no longer had to figure out which dimensions, image formats and quality settings give the best results. All you had to do is browse your website and choose the image you want to optimize.
When you selected an image on your website, Shift Pic would resize the viewport to figure out the ideal image dimensions for the various responsive breakpoints. Then, you could either optimize this same image or provide a new image, and Shift Pic would convert, resize and optimize it, giving you web-ready versions of your image for 4K displays, desktops, tablets and mobiles.
Tech stack
The front-facing Chrome extension was built with regular HTML, CSS and Javascript, without any frameworks or build steps.
The API backend was built in PHP, and used a multitude of image processing scripts, librairies and softwares.
FastSpring was used as a merchant of records, handling all of the subscription payment logic and legalities.
Where is it now?
This project has since been shut down, but you can still view the codebases on GitHub:
