BioSAFE Genomics

BioSAFE's website started in 2017, and it was my first freelance web development project.

The goal with this website was to establish a good web presence for the bioSAFE project by giving them a platform to share updates, discoveries and scientific publications.

Thanks to the ease of use of the custom CMS that is powering this website, a lot of new content has been added and edited by the client since the launch. New features have also been developed over time, such as the What's New panel and the French version of the site.

The site was built with:

  • PHP with Symfony 3
  • Vanilla JS & CSS
  • and... Glaze CMS - a custom-built CMS!

Glaze CMS

I built a custom-built CMS for this project, called Glaze CMS.

I was hoping to use this for other freelance and personal projects in the future, so the time investment felt worth it to me in order to give a better UX for clients and better performance than what I had seen with Wordpress sites.

However, that never really happened: I didn't have any other freelance projects for a while afterwards, and when I did eventually do more website builds for clients, the web ecosystem had evolved quite a bit and the CMS's underlying technologies were outdated. So unfortunately, Glaze CMS never caught on - not even for my own projects. Still, it was a great learning experience.

Here are some screenshots showing the backend to demonstrate how glorious this homemade CMS really was.
